The perched village

The name of Allex would come from Gallic Alisum, form male of Alisa, which meant "cliff". The village is built on a calcareous hillock long of more than one kilometer and parallel with the Drôme river. It is dominated by a tower which is the single vestige of a castle of the 11th century.

The medieval part was surrounded by large bored walls of 3 doors, of which 2 remain today: that of the Hillock, in arched passage, and that called carries hospital.

The village, which belongs to the network of the 18 perched villages of the Valley of Drôme, counts many staircases and picturesque passages, which pass sometimes under the houses: they are the andrones , equivalent to the Lyons traboules. It is decorated many wells , fountains and laundrettes as of a table of orientation which makes it possible to discover the Valley of Drôme.
